D2C ReCommerce strengthens its position in the circular economy: majority stake for mySWOOOP

D2C ReCommerce focuses on the sustainability megatrend with its investment in the mySWOOOP buying and selling platform for consumer electronics

01/25/2024 – D2C ReCommerce, a subsidiary of the Weltbild D2C Group, has acquired a majority stake in mySWOOOP GmbH. Simon and Benjamin Gabriel, founders and managing directors, will remain on the management board and continue to hold shares in the company. The acquisition of this established buying and selling platform for used technology represents a further important step for D2C ReCommerce in strengthening its position in the field of sustainable business activities.

mySWOOOP GmbH, launched as a start-up in 2011, has developed into a leading re-commerce multi-channel platform with around 400 stationary partners. The focus is on buying and selling new and used technology such as smartphones, laptops and consoles. With more than 1 million active customers and sales of around EUR 45 million, mySWOOOP has established itself in the used electronics market. With its own #GOECO brand, mySWOOOP is also a real enabler and market leader for refurbished technology products in stationary retail.

Focus on circular economy: a step towards a sustainable future

The investment in mySWOOOP underlines the commitment of Berlin-based D2C ReCommerce to sustainable business practices and the promotion of circular economy. The focus is on reprocessing and marketing returns and surplus goods. Bjoern Minnier, Managing Director of the Weltbild D2C Group, emphasizes: “The sustainable handling of technology and used electronics is a key issue for the future. Our aim is to operate sustainably, further increase the volume of trade in used technology and grow profitably.”

The founders Benjamin and Simon Gabriel see a promising future for the company under the umbrella of the Weltbild D2C Group: “Our goal is to further expand our position as one of the leading re-commerce companies by utilizing synergies on both sides in the B2B and end customer segments and to scale faster together.”

Aiming for growth in the B2C and B2B sectors

D2C ReCommerce plans to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the new Circular Economy Act, particularly in the area of trading in used electronics. The acquisition of mySWOOOP is intended to help drive further growth.

According to the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and the consulting firm Roland Berger, the global turnover of the circular economy already amounted to 148 billion euros in 2020. The forecast for 2030 predicts an increase to EUR 263 billion, which corresponds to an increase of 78%.

mySWOOOP – On-site and online for sustainable consumption

mySWOOOP, based in Bremen, is not only available to customers online, but also operates three of its own stores in Bremen. Customers can also sell used technology to around 400 purchasing partners across Germany and buy professionally refurbished smartphones under the #GOECO brand from specialist electronics retailers. The company also offers commercial customers the opportunity to sell their office and business equipment as well as returns, B-goods or remaining stock in just a few steps via IT and business purchases. The company’s profile includes specially developed software for product evaluation as well as additional services such as repairs, warranties and other services to extend the service life of devices.
